The PHP development team has released the final version of PHP 4. Version 4.4.8, released January 3rd, 2008, is intended to wrap up the last outstanding patches for the 4.4 series of PHP.
Version 4.4.8 is considered the last normal PHP 4.4 release. The development team does not intend to release any future updates to PHP 4, although they state that releases to address security could be made until as late as 2008-08-08.
All PHP users are encouraged to upgrade to PHP 4.4.8 if you wish to remain on the PHP 4 series. However, for long-term PHP usage, I suggest upgrading to PHP 5 if you haven't already done so.
The lastest release of the PHP 5 series, PHP 5.2.5, was released November 8th, 2007 and includes over 60 bug fixes, including several security related fixes.
